31st March celebrates transgender people across the globe, honouring their courage to live openly and be their most authentic selves.

More importantly, though, International Transgender Day of Visibility helps to raise awareness around the discrimination that many trans people still face.

What is Classed as Discrimination of Trans People?

Unlawful discrimination against a worker because of gender reassignment includes:

  • Less favourable treatment. For example, not offering the worker employment.
  • Less favourable terms and conditions.
  • Fewer opportunities for promotion.
  • Fewer opportunities for training.

If a person engages in unwanted conduct related to gender reassignment which has the purpose or effect of violating the other person’s dignity or of creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment, that person is guilty of harassment.

Discrimination also includes situations where a person is treated less You may be being harassed or experiencing discrimination on grounds of gender reassignment if you:

  • Are feeling humiliated.
  • Are subjected to unwanted comments or behaviour.
  • Are being ignored.
  • Are being excluded from activities, processes, meetings etc.

Making a Change

A lot of people put up with less favourable treatment or harassment, hoping that it will stop. But this should not be the case.

Here at Staff Squared, we believe wholeheartedly that every person, regardless of their gender assignment, has the right to live their life being as true to themselves as they can be. Because at the end of the day, that’s what we all are – people.

In support of equality for all employees using our software, we are pleased to be able to announce that users are now able to add customisable Titles and Genders to their profiles.

Adding Custom Title and Gender Markers

It couldn’t be easier to apply custom titles and genders to your Staff Squared account. As an admin user, head to an employee’s profile and follow these simple steps:

Title

  • Navigate to the Public tab.
  • Locate the Title field and click on the green cog icon next to the dropdown menu available here:

  • Click add – a new row will appear:

  • Add more options or, if done, click save.

Gender

  • Navigate to the Personal tab.
  • Locate the Title field and click on the green cog icon next to the dropdown menu available here:

  • Click add – a new row will appear:

  • Add more options or, if done, click save.

Working Together

Change can only happen when we work together to make it so, rather than waiting around for somebody else to do something about it. We feel humbled to have been able to work with Omobono to implement these customer options for Title and Gender markers in Staff Squared and couldn’t be prouder to have been able to make such a positive change to our software.
